Alaska News

Here are some articles from the Anchorage Daily News that Adria and I found interesting/entertaining:
  • Here is a recap of the inaugural Running of the Reindeer that occurred during Fur Rondy
  • During this past winter I have seen more cars flipped over on the sidewalk than I had seen in my entire life. This article titled "Airbone Ford hits parked cars" happened just down the road from our old apartment
  • While it may not be a white whale, scientists found a white killer whale in the Aleutian Islands
  • The line "Anchorage has an estimated 65,000 dog poop factories" in this article cracked me up
  • And here is an article about a state trooper whose car was almost hit by a moose who fell off a cliff. It also includes this little bit:

As for Peterson, he's been a trooper for five years and has seen lots of things fall from cliffs while on patrol -- rocks, snow, mud, cars.

Cars? Yes, cars: "I used to work in the Valley," he said, explanation enough.

More from mom...

Hi everyone, I'm back. This is my latest quilt. It was surprisingly easy and didn't even take that much time, (thanks to excel-and even less if I had used the macro that Garth made me that counts the cells in each color-but tables would have worked just as well probably). If you want to know how, call me or google "bargello". I was inspired by the northern lights. Ok, no more from me for a while!

Egg Hunt Editorial

This is Adria. First I want to say that the "door handle egg" and most of the other eggs were far more difficult to see than the camera lets on (something about camera flash reflecting off of silver wrapping paper differently than off of a metal door handle, etc). The door handle egg was definitely the least visible, and my personal favorite as well as being the last egg Garth stumbled onto. I had been developing this egg hunt in my mind for many a spare moment throughout the month (starting after I agreed to hide eggs in a totally empty white room) and Thomas and I enjoyed it probably about one zillion times more than Garth did, maybe for that reason. Finally, I just want to say that although it can only be loosely associated with Easter as a religious holiday, Easter egg hunting is awesome and who ever thought of it was brilliant. I am looking forward to Garth's retaliatory hunt designed for me on Orthodox Easter, sometime in April after Passover. That's all from me-shout out to everyone who keeps up with our blog!

Easter Festivities

Adria really likes to color eggs and to create crazy Easter egg hunts for me. This year was no exception.

Below are the eggs that we colored while Thomas took his mid-morning nap on Saturday

Here is a video of Adria discussing all of the eggs

Here is a close-up of the eggs that Adria was talking about on the video when the video stopped due to my memory card filling up. The egg has 2 Chinese characters which mean "luck".

This is the room in which Adria hid all of the Easter eggs. You may be asking yourself, "Where are all of the eggs?" Adria cut out egg shaped pieces of masking tape and I was to search those out to get the treats. The follow slideshow shows some of the locations that Adria found to hide eggs in an empty room, see if you can find all of the eggs:

One of the treats from the Easter egg hunt were matching ties for Thomas and I.

Our Neighborhood Moose

We have known for a while that there are some moose that roam around our neighborhood. We have had moose droppings in our yard, a moose ate part of our tree while we were on vacation, and we have had to stop to let moose cross the street a couple of times near our neighborhood as well. But we had never actually seen a moose on our street until a couple of days ago when Adria saw a pair of moose on the hill across from our house.

The moose is on the right hand side of the clear patch of the hill, a little more than half way up. Here is a zoomed in picture

Then on Saturday morning, Adria looked out the window and saw the same pair of moose in the same spot so we went out to go look at them up close from the comfort our car.

Some Old Pictures of Thomas

Adria and I were looking at some pictures of Thomas when he was just a little guy this evening and came across two pictures that never got posted that we both liked.

Here is a picture of Thomas with Grandpa Tingey from our visit to Oregon last October:

Here is a picture of Thomas is his coat ready to go outside on a walk. This picture was taken last November:

Get The Toy

Thomas has a new favorite game. For lack of a more descriptive name it is called, "Get The Toy". The rules are simple, I put a toy on the floor and Thomas goes and gets it. Thomas is a much better crawler than he was during his first attempts.
Below is some video of us playing this new game.

Thomas' New Play Mat

Adria recently finished a new play mat for Thomas with some fabric that Grandma Tingey gave us. Thomas seems pleased with the results.
