Alumni Blues

I'm alright now
'cause I got a degree
---Phish, Alumni Blues
This last weekend I graduated from Oregon State University. Here are some pictures from the event (click on the thumbnails for a larger view):

All of the graduates seated before the beginning of the graduation ceremony. As you can tell, Adria and my parents sat in the upper deck of OSU's Reser Stadium. However, they had a hard time understanding the commencement speakers due to lag in the sound from the amplifiers on the field on the amplifiers on the upper deck. However, from someone who could hear the speakers they didn't miss much. It wasn't even the best commencement address given in Corvallis that week.

Here I am waving to my family in the upper deck.

A picture of me receiving my degree on the Jumbotron.

Me showing off my degree. OSU has the tradition of giving each graduate their actual diploma (instead of mailing it to the graduates a couple weeks later as many other colleges do).

After receiving their degrees, most of the people around me left instead of waiting for the end of the commencement excercises.

Me and my parents showing off my degree. The boutonniere that my Dad is wearing was made by Adria as a Father's Day present as OSU commencement traditional falls on Father's Day.

Me and Adria also showing off my degree.

Halfway to the Paper Anniversary

Adria and I celebrated our 6-month anniversary on the 10th. These past six months have gone by fast. We celebrated by having dinner at a local Thai Restaurant on Friday and by having some carrot cake with our lunch on Saturday.

I also turned 25. Adria, among other things, gave me a some new sunglasses, tickets to a Salem-Keizer Volcanoes game, and a baseball card of the ugliest baseball player ever. We celebrated on Tuesday because I didn't have any finals that day. Adria had to work in the morning, so I went to work with her. On Tuesday mornings the senior citizens that attend the center have a meeting. They had a Father's Day potluck and played some games this week. The event was even written up in the Portland Chinese Times (or so they say, it is all in Chinese) and even had a picture of Adria and I. Adria is less excited about this than I am, as it isn't the first time that she has been in the Portland Chinese Times. It seems at times that Adria has a picture in either the Portland Chinese Times or the Asian Reporter every other week or so.

Adria took the afternoon off and we both went to the Portland Zoo to celebrate. We had a nice time, although it was kind of sad to see some of the animals because they looked so unhappy to be living in a zoo. Here are some of the pictures that we took of some of the happier animals (click on the thumbnails for a larger view):

Also, I finished up my finals on Thursday. I have my department graduation on Saturday, and then on Sunday is the university graduation ceremony. It feels good to finally be finished with my degree.

I also found out this week that after my two week orientation period in Washington D.C., that I will be spending the next 12 weeks in Seattle for some additional training. So it looks like we won't actually get up to Alaska until October. On the bright side, hopefully we will be able to attend some Mariner games while we are up there.

In other news, my fantasy baseball team is above .500 for the first time all year.
